Cardiff Trading Standards warn of telephone survey scam

Cardiff Trading Standards
is warning residents to be vigilant against unsolicited telephone calls from companies claiming they are carrying out a survey on either Medical Conditions or Crime Prevention around the Home.

Cardiff Residents have received calls from companies asking for details and then making arrangements to visit with a view to selling mobility products, like stairlifts and also security systems.

However, in some instances there may be discrepancies between what they say on the phone and their reasons for visiting people in their homes, and this may turn into a visit costing the resident thousands of pounds they didn't intend to spend.

If such a call is received, residents should:

* Record the date, time and name of the person calling
* Ask for details of the company calling including the name, address and contact details of the business
* Never give personal information over the phone
* Make notes of the conversation in case there are any inaccuracies in what is promised or agreed
* Make arrangements for family or friend to be with them at the time of any visit.
* Refuse to sign a contract during a visit, take your time and think about whether it is something you need
* Reduce the number of unwanted telephone calls, register with the Telephone Preference Service on 0845 070 0707 or at
* Obtain further information on how to deal with unwanted doorstep callers from

Councillor Judith Woodman, Cardiff Council Deputy Leader for Communities, Housing and Social Justice said: "We take the issue of unsolicited calls very seriously in Cardiff. If you receive a phone call of this nature, be on your guard and never give out any personal details to the caller. If you suspect that the call is suspicious or may be a scam contact Consumer Direct Wales on 08454 04 05 06."

Newcastle Tyne Wear | Gateshead | North East Northumberland

Click here to find new and reconditioned stairlifts in Newcastle & North East

If you are looking for the
Castle Comfort Stairlifts
legendary website -

This blog is part of a series from Castle Comfort Stairlifts that profiles the areas we serve and where our stairlifts offices are plus facts about the region. Also we will give you links to stairlift information or frequently asked questions about stairlifts to guide you in making the best decision for your family.

Stairlifts in Newcastle and the North East can be found by contacting Castle Comfort Stairlifts on 0191 644 0366 or call for free on 0800 007 6959.

Newcastle upon Tyne
together with Gateshead with which it is linked by bridges over the Tyne, is the social, cultural and educational hub of the North East. Established as a port and shipbuilding works, at one time a quarter of all world trade came through here.

Aswell as the port and harbour industries there is a rich heritage of coalmining as many people in the area have family members or friends who worked "doon pit."Are you Novocastrian? We are. It means someone who lives in a place called Newcastle of which there are a few in the world. The HQ of Castle Comfort Stairlifts is in Newcastle-under-Lyme and gained its name, like Newcastle-upon-Tyne from being close to a castle and is also a big ex-coal mining area too.

Aswell as the warm Geordie hospitality that has made Newcastle a mecca for nights out, the local accent from the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area, which was popularised by the TV series "Auf Wiedersehen Pet," can sometimes be difficult to understand for some. Can you translate the following?

"Aye, we're ringin that one, put it doon on the list, they seem leik a canny good company te caal."
Let us know in the comments ;-)

Famous food and drink from the area include the 5 star Newcastle Brown ale and the rather less healthy, though delicious, deep fried Mars bar. The 5 pointed blue star on the bottle of "Newky Broon," symbolises the UK's first 5 commercial breweries set up which were all local to the area.

Although the North East (along with the West Midlands) are the top two areas in Europe now, for adult obesity, according to new research, they know how to have a good time and also how to shed those pounds too. The Great North Run which is the worlds most popular half marathon is held here every year and is where one of our stairlifts colleagues ran in 2008 to raise money for Cancer Research. His latest run this year was in the Potteries Arf Marathon which he completed with a stairlift strapped to his back. See the details and video here for proof.

The city is renowned for its nightlife and also has many shopping attractions. Its Grainger Street market was in the 1800's the largest covered market in Europe and is where Englands smallest Marks and Spencers store is. It's the last remaining one of their original penny arcade stalls that the supermarket originally developed from. The streets around here form part of the Grey Street Quarter and have been said by many to be some of the finest in England and nearly half of them are Grade 1 listed.

Gateshead is also a mecca for shopping having the Metro Centre, Europe's largest indoor shopping complex within easy reach. Gateshead itself is in easy reach of our stairlift engineers who can cross the Tyne within minutes, depending on traffic of course.

Nearby Sunderland has a longstanding rivalry with the Geordies from Newcastle and here they speak "Maccam," a slightly different dialect. A Maccam local should still be able to translate the red writing above. Let us know in the comments. Although a city it is blessed with the UK's largest stretch of city-side beach at Roker and Saltburn which are both very nice at any time of year.
It is also famous for the Sunderland International Airshow which is the biggest in Europe.

As with all our regional Stairlift Blogs, we have the main towns in the North East region, along with a selection of noteable residents – past and present. It’s always remarkable, how many people do not know just who comes from their own town.

Cheryl Cole, singer, Ant and Dec, entertainers
International footballers Peter Beardsley, Michael Carrick and Alan Shearer.
Robert Stephenson, engineer and inventor of steam engine “Rocket”, Abhisit Vejjajiva, The Prime Minister of Thailand, Sting, singer/songwriter, Eric Burdon, singer with the Animals, Neil Tennant, singer with Pet Shop Boys, Mark Knopfler, guitarist Dire Straits, Hank Marvin, guitarist The Shadows,

Bob Willis cricketer Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music singer, Mike Elliott, entertainer, James Bolam, actor, Jane Grigson, cookery writer, James Hewitt, vet/author,
Bob Paisley, football manager, Dave Stewart, Eurythmics

South Shields

Joe Mcelderry X-Factor winner. Ridley Scott, hollywood film director,

If you know of any more famous names from the North East for our stairlift blog then mention them in the comments. We will gladly add them in.

As a consumer you must be certain that the company you are entrusting to install and provide customer service for you are genuine and ethical in their approach. You need to rely on their word to rely on their stairlift, riser recliner chair or mobility scooter. That's why you are looking for stairlifts reviews here.

It's like when you compare a bank to an independent financial advisor.

The first ones are on commission to sell you only their own companies product - no choice. Our advice is to seek impartial whole of market suppliers rather than one firm that will only sell you its own limited range of products. If you opt for a wider choice it means that more often than not you get a better deal that's been tailored to you.

Interest-free payments and a buy back facility are other features to look out for to help you remove any risk. Having a 7 day service and late night availability is something else that will bring peace of mind should an untoward problem occur, as you need to be able to rely on a fast service for your elderly customer in any event.

Customer testimonials are also important to you, to find out if a firm is worth pursuing further.

Here is a selection of Castle Comforts reviews, taken direct from their national area offices on Google maps. Why not join the hundreds of other customers who have also enjoyed the benefits of dealing with Castle Comfort, and get your own 5 star service.
Make your enquiry for free on 0800 007 6959.

Stairlifts Liverpool | Stairlifts North West | Stairlifts Wirral

Click here to find new and reconditioned stairlifts in Liverpool

If you are looking for the
Castle Comfort Stairlifts
legendary website -

This blog is part of a series from Castle Comfort Stairlifts that profiles the areas we serve and where our stairlifts offices are plus facts about the region. Also we will give you links to stairlift information or frequently asked questions about stairlifts to guide you in making the best decision for your family.

Liverpool and the wider Merseyside region has had more of our satisfied stairlifts customers in it than even London has had.

As our little stairlifts company has grown over the past 12 years to become a regional North West and Midlands family favourite, we've now reached the point where we have served our thousandth csutomer for Liverpool stairlifts..

Being nearby city neighbours (as in Stoke-on-Trent where the HQ of Castle Comfort is based)we are only 40 minutes away from each other. We even have local stairlifts engineers who can speak both the Scouse lingo or Potteries twang! Why not give us a call today while the number is to hand - it's 0151 676 2727.
In fact there's alot in common not least our mutual liking for lobby or lob scouse as they call it in Liverpool, and from where the origin of the name "Scouser" came from. A delicious meaty stew to warm you on a winters day.

The city itself has prospered originally as a port and at one time 40% of world trade came through here. The landmark buildings built at the time give the city an iconic quality and make it a world class city. It was the European City of Culture in 2008 and beat other city candidates including big cities like Bristol, Birmingham or Cardiff, which incidentally are all areas served by our regional stairlifts offices. If you type Castle Comfort Stairlifts + your city or county you'll get your local stairlift office or you can call freephone 0800 007 6959 to speak to someone from 8am-11pm.

You can't have a blog about Liverpool without talking about the football. If you search most cities on Google you will get the wikipedia entry for the city first and on Google images you get different photo's of the city landscape. Not in Liverpool it's the red club that's prominent here, and for more on that, the Everton blues and about Stoke City the Castle Comfort HQ's local club see the second Liverpool blog coming up in a few days.

The other notable feature of the city is that there are a host of entertainers from the city. Singers, musicians, comedians and performers abound. Check out this You tube clip of two Liverpool Legends that you and your parents will both know. And they're still popular today. In fact Ken, who is 83 now, is performing this weekend in Stoke at the Victoria Hall and he can still put on a good show for several hours straight. Enjoy this classic footage of Ken Dodd with the Beatles.

Have you heard this one? What do you get if you combine free impartial whole-of-market advice, 12 years of satisfied customers, 0% APR and an optional buyback scheme? No, it's not a joke - it's some of the risk-free reasons why a thousand others have chosen the Castle Comfort Group to get their family members mobility products. If you want a stairlift in Liverpool, Wirral or Widnes then call 0151 676 2727 to speak to Keith or Ann for your local quote.
