Stairlifts Southend-on-Sea

Super Southend-on-Sea in Essex is a traditional seaside town.  Do you live in Southend or the surrounding area?  Maybe you aren't as nimble as you used to be – or you know someone who isn't – and that's why you've found this page.  Well before you take Castle Comfort Stairlift's Southend tour, just check out our video in which Keith our founder tells you all about us and how we can help.  Then if you'd like more information please call Castle Comfort Stairlift's local Essex office on 01376 396015 where our team will be
happy to help you.

Now over to our tour guide to show you around:  Southend-on-Sea is the second largest town in Essex.  It developed into a seaside town in Georgian times attracting people with its seven miles of beaches.  Even though with the arrival of cheap flights overseas holidays became popular, Southend has retained its share of tourists – 6.4 million a year.

One of its attractions and its claim to fame is its pier, the longest leisure pier in the world at 1.34 miles long.  The pier which runs into the Thames Estuary is Grade II listed.  You can catch a train on the Pier Railway that runs the length of it if you can make the walk! There is also a Cliff Railway which can transport you down from the top of the cliff to the Promenade.  Sorry no stairlift here!

The Cliff Railway

Remember though if you are unfortunate enough to need a bit of help up lots of stairs, like that, then no problem, Castle Comfort Stairlifts are on hand to help!  We might not be able to get you up and down that cliff but we can make sure that you have access to your entire home!  If you'd like some advice please call Castle Comfort's Stairlifts on 01376 396015.

Southend-on-Sea has all the usual seaside entertainments from an
amusement park with over 50 rides, bowling alley, an arcade, a casino,
a sea life aquarium and cliff top gardens which originally housed a
Victorian Bandstand.  Unfortunately due to cliff erosion the bandstand
has been demolished; the local council hope to 'rehouse' it somewhere
else in the town.

Other reasons Southend has maintained its popularity is its proximity
to London – just 40 miles away – and good transport links including
London Southend Airport with flights to Galway and Waterford in Ireland (twice a day) where our Ireland Office install stairlifts and Jersey every week during the summer.

Annual attractions
There are various other annual attractions which bring visitors too: from the London to Southend Classic Car run to the Southend Shakedown another annual event for motorbikes and scooters and of course, the Great London Rideout which brings scooters to Southend every year.
From an airshow – one of Europe's largest - the Festival of the Air which takes place every May and features military jets, aerobatics over the sea, parachute displays from RAF Falcons and the Red Arrows to Southend Carnival and Illuminations.

Fairly new on the annual scene is the Southend Film Festival which has Ray Winstone as its patron.

In nearby Leigh-on-Sea there is an annual regatta, a sea fishing festival and a folk festival. Famous faces from Southend-on-Sea's list of notable famous connections is a long one.  Here are just a few you may know:

The 1960's band Procul Harum probably best known for their first single which went straight to no 1 in the charts, A Whiter Shade of Pale; they have had an asteroid and an orchid named after them and there is a rose named 'A whiter shade of pale' too!
The Hamsters also formed in the 1960s who have played 4,000 gigs.

Busted – successful band which disbanded in 2005; all members have gone on to pursue solo careers.

Award winning actress Dame Helen Mirren DBE grew up in Essex when the family moved from London to Westcliff-on-Sea and later Leigh-on Sea; amongst many performances and awards, Mirren won a Best Actress Academy Award for her role in The Queen.

Historian /art historian Simon Schrama grew up in Southend-on-Sea; he has successfully turned his academic career into one that reaches us through the media – he has presented several series on television.

Footballer Spencer Prior was born in Southend-on-Sea and went onto play for Southend's own team for four seasons; after this he joined Norwich City, Leicester City, Derby County, Manchester City and Cardiff City before returning to Southend United.

Tennis player John Lloyd was winner of the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles with Wendy Turnbull twice in the 1980s; he was married Wimbledon Women's champion Chris Evert; he is now a BBC commentator.  His
brother David Lloyd was also a professional tennis player.
Comedians Phil Jupitus, Russel Kane and Lee Evans all hail from Southend-on-Sea.  Lee grew up in Essex and Phil and Russell currently live in the area.

  1. It is not a bad idea to have a stairlift for those people who cannot climb the stairs, in this way you can better see the festival of the air of Southend in Essex. Good job Castle Comfort
