Interested in sport, then please read on. As you might expect with a county the size of Hampshire, it has a lot of connections to sport.
Cricket
Hampshire has a long history with cricket. One of the first teams was formed at Hambledon in 1750, The Hambledon Club, and from this club many of the early rules of the game were set in place. In the same century, Alresford between Portsmouth and Basingstoke, also had a strong cricket team.
Now Hampshire County Cricket Club still fields a first class team. The main country ground is the Rose Bowl in the West End district of Southampton; England batsman Kevin Pietersen plays for Hampshire CC and the team is captained by Dimitri Mascarenthas. Famous Australian star Shane Warne has also captained Hampshire CC.
If you've been bowled out and can no longer make the runs, but still need to be mobile enough to get up those stairs let Castle Comfort Stairlifts give you a hand. We are the main agent for all stairlift manufacturers in the UK so will have something to suit. Give us a call on 023 8124 3046 so that you're not caught out for a duck!

Football
You can't talk about Hampshire's two biggest cities without thinking football either! Both Southampton FC and Portsmouth FC are in the championship league and are long-term rivals.

The Saints
Southampton FC aka The Saints are an iconic part of Southampton! Founded in November 1885, The Saints have been a steadfast part of Southampton life ever since. It was the Young Men's Association of St Mary's Church who founded the club and there is a sense of returning to their roots since the club moved from The Dell to its new home at St Mary's Stadium right near to the church which originally brought it to life.
Originally called St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C. with games played on Southampton Common, it has come a long way. The Saints are in the championship League this season and proud of it.
Their signature song is 'When the Saints go Marching in' which you can hear fans singing whenever you visit.

Famous names
Some of the best known players in the game have played here and also hold England caps too. Back in the day it was Alan Ball, Mick Channon, Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer; more recently Matthew Le Tissier and Jamie Redknapp.
